District 6-A Championship
Bishop Carroll 32 (10-2), Bishop McCort 13 (8-5)

Bishop McCort's attempt at five consecutive District 6 football championships fell short as Bishop Carroll earned the title with a 32-13 victory.  The Crushers were stopped three times inside the five yard line in the contest.  "If we take care of the redzone, it's a different ball game," said head coach Ken Salem.  "But overall, they dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.  We didn't play with as much intensity as we needed to compete tonight."

Josh Barzdo scored a touchdown in each of the first three quarters on runs of 24, 39 and 28 yards and Ryan Woo added a five yard TD run to put the score at 26-0 with 7:45 remaining in the third.  The Crushers picked up their first touchdown of the game following a bad snap on a punt attempt which gave McCort the ball at the BC 2.  Zach Varga carried the ball into the endzone on first down while Jordan Spangler added the PAT for a 26-7 score.  Josh Chumrik scored Carroll's final touchdown from the two and Patrick O'Reilly scored from from one yard out to set the final score.

"Give Bishop Carroll a tremendous amount of credit," said Salem.  "They played hard and they made the big plays when they had to.  Their defense stopping us when we were in the redzone was the key.

Salem mentioned some positive aspects of the 2010 season.  "We are only starting four seniors on either side of the ball.  It was a great way to bounce back from a tough start."

GAME NOTES: Salem announced to his team after the game that this would be his last season as head coach of the Crushers.  "It is the right time for me to step down as coach so that I can focus on my expanding duties as principal."  Jesse Cooper passed for 1406 yards which was the fifth highest season total in school history.  Zach Varga (842) and Anthony LaRue (821) were the team's leading rushers.  Christian Leech led the team with 33 catches for 639 yards.  He also had 6 interceptions.
