Bishop McCort 31 (6-1) , Johnstown 21 (4-3)

Bishop McCort recorded 410 yards of total offense while holding Johnstown's star running back Antwuan Reed to just 42 yards on 19 carries on its way to a 31-21 victory at Trojan Stadium.  "I have to give coach (Dave) Seidel and coach (Rick) DelSignore a tremendous amount of credit for getting our defense ready," said head coach Ken Salem.  "Our kids played exceptionally well up front.  I thought Anthony Caperelli is doing a great job at middle linebacker.  He's been getting healthier each week.  I thought Mike Cruz played his strongest game of the year and I think it showed being able to hold a fantastic athlete to minimal yardage."

The Crushers had good field position in the first quarter on three drives into the red zone, but were only able to come up with a Dane Domonkos 34 yard field goal before the period ended.  Johnstown took the lead early in the second when quarterback Shawn Lehman hooked up with Jordan Jefferson on a 64 yard pass play.  Jon Maurizio kicked the first of three extra points to give the Trojans a 7-3 lead.  The Crushers came back following the kickoff with a ten play drive covering 65 yards capped off by an Eric Lowry 1 yard TD run.  Johnstown only needed two plays to regain the lead when Lehman hit Richard Agurs for a 29 yard touchdown pass which set the halftime score at 14-10.

Early in the third quarter, McCort was backed up to its own ten yard line after a JHS punt.  The Crushers moved the ball down the field, but was facing a fourth and one at the Trojans' 45.  A pass interference call against Johnstown put the ball on the 30.  Lowry scored his second touchdown of the game from 11 yards out to put the Crushers ahead 17-14.  After Johnstown went three-and-out following the kickoff, Jack Schrey returned the punt to the Trojans' 23.  Five plays later, DeFrances connected with Matt Varga on a six yard TD.  Domonkos PAT made the score 24-14 with 1:58 left in the third.

The Crushers were driving again midway through the fourth when a McCort fumble was picked up by Quadir Christian who raced 54 yards into the endzone to put the Trojans within three points at 24-21.  McCort put the game out of reach with 2:10 left in the game when Lowry took a backwards pass and ran 34 yards for the touchdown which set the final score at 31-21.

Salem had plenty of praise for his linemen.  "I've got to give great credit to that young bunch of guys that have been beaten up and maligned all year long.  Those sophomore linemen (Steve) Belskey, (Mike) Baco, and (Shane) Rugg along with Rick James, Ethan Cook and Mike Cruz.  Those guys have been working so hard to come together as a unit.  Every week we've been getting better.  They're working hard, they're smart kids, they're coachable, they're doing things the right way and I think they're getting better when it matters in the last third of the season."

In his post game radio, Salem was asked about his team's speed.  "I have to give a lot of credit to coach Kevin Sheridan and coach J.D. Jones.  They've been on my case all summer to put in some misdirection and to take advantage of Domonkos' and Varga's speed.  We've been doing that this season, putting the ball into the flat, but this counteraction that we put in has really given some people some fits.  We're going to continue to develop it.  It's only in its infancy and I think as our line gets better, and we incorporate more misdirection and our ability to throw the ball, I think we'll become even tougher."

We have confidence in Jordan at quarterback.  We realize that Schrey, Varga, Domonkos, Lowry and others are all capable of making a lot of plays.  I think it becomes very difficult for teams to key on just one guy because we had a big catch out of (Matt) McIntyre.  We had some big plays out of Domonkos.  It gives teams a lot of people to worry about."
